"Be A Man" - Hole

The only boy I understand: the one ashamed to be a man
Just rape the world because you can, that's what it takes to be a man
Knock her up, slap her hand, prove it to me, just be a man
I think I can, I think I can, I'm big enough to be a man
Tell you the truth, I'm jealous yeah, give anything to be a man...
Be a man, so impotent, be a man
Take off your dress, your master plan, give anything, just be a man
Oh cut it off, of course you can, got what it takes to be a man
Oh rape us all just 'cause you can, well give it up, just be a man
Your fucking war, the carnage yeah, give anything to be a man
Cut it off, I know you can, 'cause no one cares if you're a man
Be a man, so impotent, be a man
Can't get it up? I understand... under the gun to be a man...
I think I can, I think I can, I'm big enough to be a man!
I fuck the world, because I can, I'm everything, oh be a man
I fuck the world, because I can, give anything, be a man
I'm potent yeah!!!

WTF DO NOT WANT - "Hello there :D I just watched The Hills Have Eyes for the first time a few days ago, and now I'm really into it... I'm a typical fangirl who yanks innocent characters out of movies/series and plops them into pairings, and as I was watching the end of the movie the pairing Lizard/Doug popped into my head."

[03] -- Post a fun and random bit of trivia from each film.

The scene at the beginning with Captain Willard alone in his hotel room was completely unscripted. It was the last scene to be shot, and Martin Sheen told the shooting crew to just let the cameras roll. The crew was so disturbed by his actions, such as punching the mirror, then rubbing the fresh blood on his face that they wanted to stop shooting, but director Francis Ford Coppola wanted to keep the cameras going.

Javier Bardem originally turned down the role of Chigurh by telling the Coens: "I don't drive, I speak bad English, and I hate violence." To which the Coens responded: "That's why we called you."

The 1940s-style song heard following the terrorist bombing is "Tokyo Shoe Shine Boy", released in 1951 by jazz singer Teruko Akatsuki. The song was not included in either the Japanese, or American releases of the soundtrack; however, it had previously appeared on the release of the soundtrack from MASH (1970).

The word "fuck" is used 61 times throughout the whole film from the beginning to the end of the mansion scenes.

Many of the computer graphic effects were built around an on-set, physical effect, so that the actors had something to respond to. Many of the actors took on these scenes themselves. Cliff Curtis deserves a special mention, as he blocked his nostrils and ears with cotton wool so he could be blasted from all directions with dust.

yeah, first lines of 15 songs on shuffle, blah blah blah.

my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard
reach out and touch faith
who let you go?
say say my baby won't you lay your hands on me
i'm only pretty sure that I can't take anymore
i would never bother you, i would never promise to
so you finally got what you wanted
i met a boy wearing vans, 501s, and a
at the end of the day you're another day older
after years of waiting
oooh - stop.
bam chicka bam chicka
snow can wait I forgot my mittens
she seems dressed in all the rings of past fatalities
i woke the other day

catch me on a better day
don't know why
every time you drop the bomb
i never once in my wayward life was heading to run out
yeah mama this must be my dream
a serious flaw i hope you know that
the body, rock the body, c'mon, get down
deep breathing in soft air
too many sensations now for a good feeling
living in a material world
like slow spinning redemption
let's pretend happy end
bow down to me
generation next
memory ah

one of her better videos...the whole early 90's thing didn't work so well for MTV

[identity profile] intertribal.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
a lot of her fans seem to dislike it, but maybe they like the bad videos better?

[identity profile] royinpink.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
probably just dislike the newer music...dunno if/when she got accused of selling out, but that'd do it

[identity profile] intertribal.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
oh blah. that's such a tired accusation.

[identity profile] royinpink.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
sometimes I wonder if the song "Awful" is speaking to it, just cause that whole album seems like it would be the sellout album, you know, happy catchy tunes for sales, but some of the lyrics of that song seem to be saying the whole thing is, well, awful ("You've got your youth, don't waste your money, yeah it's awful, I was punk, now I'm just stupid, I'm so awful...Oh, just shut up you're only 16" etc.). She's not the first one I'd accuse of selling out, just because it's not like she went from being super-political to having no message, she could keep her style with better production values, but I think the sort of "sell-out" process is just what happens when someone not on an indie label makes good sales (w/ Live Through This), the people in charge focus more attention on them, want them to repeat the sales. It's the sort of pressure and attention music artists in that situation have to deal with more than some moral weakness on their part or something. I mean, Garbage had that point too, a lot of bands do. I'm not sure why I'm saying all this to you. I guess I just mean it's tired not just as an accusation but as an actual phenomenon.

[identity profile] intertribal.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it is a phenomenon... it's not one that bothers me, though. Well, my favorite song that addresses that is Hooker With A Penis.

[identity profile] royinpink.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
i think it bothers me a little, but not so much at the artists for 'selling out' as at the music industry, and various related economic facts...

[identity profile] royinpink.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, hooker w/ a penis is good too. and...courtney love doesn't seem the type to really give a fuck what her fans think. to her credit.

[identity profile] intertribal.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, I really don't think any artists should care what their "fans" think.

if i'm the man then you're the man and he's the man as well so you can point that fucking finger up your ass!

I love that line. I wish I could say that to the human rights kids who go to this school (yes, in particular those who go to this school).

[identity profile] royinpink.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
that, and a lot of people just don't like courtney love in general

[identity profile] royinpink.livejournal.com 2008-03-10 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
ohhh yeah, i totally forgot the controversy with billy corgan being involved in writing or producing some of her songs on celebrity skin...that'd do it.

first lines of 15 songs on shuffle...

(first lyrics I understand=) And every time the sky would turn a funny shade of green
Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation
Through the warmthest cord of care
I couldn't escape this feeling
Oh God said to Abraham, kill me a son
I am disappointed every morning that I wake up
Dizzy!
You got to you got to you got to SAVE us, S.O.S.!
Straight lines have cut through the seat like you wanted to (?)
Sent like rain to your fallen knees
Hey yes, whenever I'm alone with you
What did you want?
Don't you know what time it is, it's early?
A boiada seca
When I wake up

there might be some good ones
there's no way that i'll sleep when you're near me

Bring the walls down!
'cause i never been in love before (etc.)
lá vem a barca
I wanna take you there!
talkin' bout a revolution, oh no
with the ghost of Tom Joad
what's your name?
everyone is tryin' to bum me out
it ain't easy to get to heaven when you're goin' down
and if the mood is right, gon' do it tonight
