one depressing American summer

I'm going to watch war movies this summer, I've decided, before leaving for Australia. I will, after all, have to write battle scenes in Ilium eventually, and I don't want them to reek of fantasy's cliched wars (see: Lord of the Rings battle scenes).
1. Apocalypse Now
2. Platoon
3. Full Metal Jacket (maybe)
4. The Deer Hunter
5. Go Tell the Spartans
6. Hearts and Minds
7. Jacob's Ladder
8. Southern Comfort
9. R-Point (hey! more people should do war/ghost movies!)
You've noticed that I've discounted all movies that feature action heroes and women love interests. That was done purposefully. Asian movies seem incapable of making war movies that don't involve somebody "falling in love with a prostitute" - and then you remember things like "Miss Saigon" and "Madame Butterfly" (I HATE those two works with a vengeance) and what prostitutes really were, often times ("comfort women"), and you just want to scream.
