- Man, there were a lot of monsters in 480 B.C. Like, serious, Rawhead Rex stuff.* Fangs and goat heads and all that. Look cool though. I'd probably be creeped out in a theater.
- The Persians are definitely way more interesting in design than the Spartans. They've got all the monsters and exotica. Nice fancy bull-head thrones. The Spartans are, well, spartan.
- Yeah, this is pretty racist. Especially considering Frank Miller's comments, yowza. Frank Miller, a black mark on your name. Now I feel bad for liking Sin City.
- Leonidas is definitely a basket-case. Somebody's got a little General Ripper in 'im.
- Was I supposed to find the whole Gorgo stabbing Rapist Guy empowering? I must have missed it.
- The political ideology presented in this movie kind of defies reason. I'm with Roger Moore. This is pretty much the definition of fascist art.
- Cool fight scenes? Sort of.
- Oh fantastic. Now I get to watch Mission Fucking Impossible III.

*: Of all the Clive Barker stories I've read, how is RAWHEAD REX the one I can't get out of my head?

But you have to admit, it had some great one-liners. Other than that, yeah, it was like a Wagner opera in movie form.

I don't know man, that sort of feels like an insult to Wagner.

Don't feel bad. Deconstructing 300 Losers would take an epic quest; there's so much crumminess going on it's hard to know where to start.

All you need to know is that Leonidas, whose own men could strike a monster rhino into slow-mo' death from across a football field, who is supposed to be the ultimate hardcore macho-man, chokes when the chips are down. He misses the leader of the enemy from what, twenty-five feet away tops?

The very definition of "no payoff", not even in the most mindlessly primitive way.

LOL! So grazing Xerces' cheek with the spear wasn't supposed to be some kind of inspirational moment?

I don't understand this because I am missing all the references.

LOL, sorry. Frank Miller made 300. Frank Miller also made Sin City. He's a comic book artist, and what he really made was the comics that these movies are based off of. Frank Miller said that he made the Ancient Persians in 300 so inhuman/savage because they represent the backwards/savage people that "we" are fighting today (Middle Eastern Muslims). He also makes what he himself calls propaganda of Batman punching out al-Qaeda.

I wince every time I hear anything about 300, because it just seems THAT BAD.

On the brighter side of things, your "life is not 300" tag is fascinating. Now I'll go walk the dog and think about revanchism.

It was more interesting aesthetically than I thought it would be, but everything else was just as FAIL as it looks.

Now I'll go walk the dog and think about revanchism.

Yes! Mission accomplished!
