Fantasy sucks!
D-War: Yet another example of how very wrong a DBZ live action movie could go.  And this is presumably with a budget.  See, kids, monster movies don't make money anymore.  Not unless they are foreign and somehow clever in the way The Host was (and I don't think even that made that much money, it just got some publicity).  Do not market anything as a monster movie - especially if the monster is a dragon.   People are selling movies now.  People and wars and disasters.  There's plenty of that in DBZ, so honestly, if Fox really does want to make a live action version (which I still pray that it doesn't), it should focus on that.

Enchanted:  Aside from the amusing mention of 116th and Broadway (why is this set at Columbia/Barnard again?  Is it made for Barnard girls?), this film begs deeper questions: Why are they making a movie out of a retarded television miniseries?  Is it because they have run out of ideas?  Is it because Disney has gone retarded?  Is it because they have acquiesced animation to Pixar?  Is it because they've decided to make more musicals without bothering to animate them (the only way musicals work, unless you are one of the Holy Quadrille [Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera])?  I don't know, but whatever it is, there's another evil queen!

The Seeker - The Dark is Rising:  One word: CRY.

Can I just be adopted by a different genre?

Larry Fessenden, however, fucking wins.  This guy is a mad filmmaking genius, and The Last Winter looks like a superb example of how to do fantasy.  Granted I've only seen one of his other movies, Wendigo, but it blew my mind.  Okay, it was also past midnight and on the Independent Film Channel's Grindhouse segment.  Still.  His version of fantasy incorporates a lot of social commentary, a lot of human interaction, and a whole lot of excellent horror, both psychological and paranormal.  He's a genius at music and image too.  God, I cannot wait.  And The Last Winter even has Ron Perlman (Alien Resurrection, among many apocalyptic things)!

edit:  AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!
