rename party!
Oct. 17th, 2008 08:01 pmI'm sure you're wondering who this is. It's sri_angry_angel. But now it's
intertribal. Basically, I grew out of my old name (it's been two years, and I was young and naive) and I feel like I won't grow out of this one, because being "intertribal" is something about me that will never change. I've had this name in mind for a couple weeks now, and it came to me in the middle of a Colonial Encounters reading and immediately stuck without needing to be twerked.
A bit about why I chose it:
- it can be about war or peace
- it can (and does in my case) imply cultural hybridity
Plus it has political science undertones. So yeah. Hope I didn't scare anybody.

did you know?
kapparot: jewish "atonements" that usually come in the form of chicken slaughter. apparently the chicken is first held by the shoulder blades while sins are transferred onto/into the chicken by moving one's head. after the death, the chicken is given to the poor. in addition to animal rights concerns, some rabbis don't like it because they view sacrifice as "inferior to prayer".
the word drew my attention, for obvious reasons.
thanks to errol morris for my new, poli-sci-geek userpics. reading certain navel-gazing journals has made me all the more conscious of how much I say in my lj that's not related to food or purchases or my living conditions or music. this one journal lists such things in minute detail, saying that everything she eats or sees or buys is perfect, beautiful, brilliant, lovely, etc. it makes me think that people who consistently list their lives' details and discuss their wondrousness must be really insecure or pained and on the hunt for self-consolation. anyhow, for some ironic reason these pics put me at peace with my new layout.
much thanks to kim for her tori amos.

be a simple kind of man
Apr. 26th, 2007 10:15 pmI have changed my layout to celebrate the advent of summer. It is now called "Highway Star", and is a combination of Kate Moss in an old-school racecar helmet and the cover for Depeche Mode's album Singles 86-98. The title of the journal is that of a song by Garbage, and the navigation links come from "Personal Jesus", by Depeche Mode. I hope that this layout exemplifies the Interstate variant of Nebraskan Gothic - apparently my new theme of life.
In order to preserve simplicity, I have eliminated my links list, my calendar, my page summary, and my free text blurb. Another policy: I will no longer list "current music" or "current location". I will still list "tags" because I do find tags a useful means of organization, and on occasion I will still specify mood.

yeah, I know
Apr. 7th, 2007 04:10 pmI've changed userpics again. I'm also changing my title policy on using song lyrics. I like change, what can I say. I don't really know what my horoscope is talking about when it says Leos are fixed signs. From now on titles will be... whatever I want them to be.
the following lyrics to "I Am" by Nelly Furtado:
That picture of Fiona Apple is just so good and so fitting for my layout that it's my default pic that's staying at the top of my screen forever, but won't be used for individual posts. The posts will have Radiohead artwork instead. And yes, it is extremely depressing and disturbing. Some of the Kid A stuff looks like it was drawn by someone who saw many, many demons. It's a new attempt at the lj userpic. Radiohead encompasses a lot of me that many userpics of people's faces do not. I think I'm becoming very, very into the whole poli sci thing, that's all.
Who knows if we'll stick to this. Stay tuned. The revolution will be televised.

if you see me walking byIt's a good song.
you don't have to spend your time
asking me if I'm alright
do I look smarter? do I look stronger?
does it make you wonder?
well, I am.

we are accidents waiting to happen
Mar. 26th, 2007 05:33 pmI've changed my links list. It now presents, if you watch it in order, a cohesive-in-pieces description of the things that occupy my mind. Although now that I think about it, they can be divided into three un-distinct categories: sex, war(work), death - Radiohead's triumvirate of human life. So, if you're interested, watch.
"Holden was a thief and a disturbed young man and what happened was a sad thing. Perhaps we can learn a lesson from this tragedy like don't steal and don't be disturbed."
- The Good Girl

snap it, work it, quick, erase it
Mar. 21st, 2007 01:44 amas you can see, I have (once again) changed user pics. However, this time I think I'll be able to stick with them longer - I decided that I really like photo alice better than art alice. Now we have three from the Vogue photo shoot, one of Drew Barrymore (not b/c I like the actress - I just like the picture) and collected by flickr username aconina, one from Michelle Bradshaw's shadowbox display, and one from sudsandsoda, this arts and photo site that was in a language I could not understand.
So... meet Alice version 2!
