In honor of the short story I just submitted that I'm crossing my fingers for, here's a song I started to associate it for God only knows what reason (probably because I am weird).  Sadly, the only wedding in my story appears off-screen, there are no motorcycles, and no leather.  Oh well.  You can never have too much of the '80s, right?  Don't answer that.

My actual "soundtrack" was a combination of The Hills Have Eyes music (by Tomandandy), like such, and "Proven Lands" off There Will Be Blood (by Jonny Greenwood).  I'm really obsessed with "Proven Lands."  It's like the music of capitalism.

This song actually fits the story better in theme and atmosphere and such - "Das Tor" by Faun.  I actually didn't look up the translated lyrics until now - I just felt that the song worked with the story: "And when the night is at its darkest, then we shall look at each other, and laugh and laugh and laugh doing so, then we shall look at each other.  And then shall be a meadow with many-coloured flowers.  I shall give you a flower and you shall give me one.  And then we shall run, run through the gate, through the gate to the eternal day, to the eternal day.  I shall give you my hand and you shall hand me yours.  The night, it shall be no more, only a meadow with flowers."

You have to listen to it to feel how... unreal and dreamlike all this is, or how unworldly.  Like this is a vision that will not be achieved on the earthly plane, or is a pre-death hallucination, or something.

All this makes the story sound like a romance, but it's not one in any conventional sense.

Back in my live musician/club days I sang this one and "Rebel Yell." Right in my baritone rang. Thanks for the vid. ;-)

Good luck with the sub, Nadia!

Is it sad that I only recently (like when I heard this at a piano bar) really became aware of Billy Idol? Oh well. That's awesome though.

Thanks!

I think I feel the connection between the pieces on your "soundtrack," but the Billy Idol leaves me nonplussed. Not that I'm complaining, having linked to "White Wedding" more than once myself. :D

Haha, I know. It just came to me while I was listening to "White Wedding" non-stop and now I can't shake it off!

I *love* White Wedding (and Rebel Yell)--I used to sing along to them back in the day. Will come back later to listen to the others (... this is a drive-by comment.... making Obama chili again...)

Wait, Obama chili? What is that? "Yes we can make chili"?

LOL, IDK, someone--either [livejournal.com profile] wakanomori or the tall one found it online, the Obama family chili recipe. I made it once before, but now that the ninja girl's home for the summer (not to be confused with in-Japan Little Springtime, whom you wrote about colleges for), I made it again. He doesn't say "yes we can," but at one point, when talking about how much garlic to use and canned versus fresh tomatoes, he totally does say it's the people's choice.

(P.S. Looked up the plot of "The Hills Have Eyes"--yikes, man.)

The Faun music was pretty!

Interesting. I'm guessing it's good?

Hills is not for the faint of heart. I haven't seen the original, only the remake, and I actually like it a lot. It's very scary for a "backwoods cannibals" movie, and the whole nuclear test site/refusal-to-leave-one's-home explanation is nice (there's a pretty lulzy moment when Doug, who's teased at first about being a weak-spined bespectacled liberal, stabs a cannibal with an American flag). The survivors, especially Doug, really evolve. I think it did end up having an impact on my action scenes. It's not something I would recommend to everyone, but I do defend it from the "torture porn" label. The sequel is completely horrible and plotless dreck, on the other hand. Sorry, tangent.

Faun's an awesome band, I have several of their albums. "2 Falken" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5N8duF-pPM) is the first song I heard by them.

Ooh, that "2 Falken" is even prettier--or if not more so, at least equally so. Nice! I'll have to listen to more from them.

I think I'll just have to take your word on the remake (though the remake seems more easy for me to contemplate trying than the original). OTOH, we've just determined that none of us (I had thought it was just me) has seen The Shining, and all of us are interested in it--so that's on my list of see-soon films.

Yep, "2 Falken" made a convert out of me!

Have fun with The Shining! If you like it you could consider the miniseries too (which is much more in line with King's novel), but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, haha.
