I've never been, so I have no worthy opinion. Seems a lot of people go and a great place to make contacts, etc. However, if you let them change how you write, I might just start flipping tables everywhere I go. ;)

Hmm... is that a rumored side-effect (changing people's writing styles)?

Rumored. There is talk of workshop-effect on fiction (bringing a sameness to the writing), which does sort of smack of anti-intellectualism, as I'm all for discussing, dissecting writing.
