That's how others have seen it too - artistic physical discipline makes you crazy - but, to me, so much of what was told to Portman seemed directed at her being a woman rather than at her being a ballerina (of course, I don't know what gets told to ballerinas). Then her relationship with her mother, and the whole little girl vs. grown woman internal struggle. And the male ballerinas were neither very characterized nor crazy. I'd like to see The Wrestler, but never got around to it when it came out.
