I am simply saying that I would consider somebody who didn't respect and rely on themselves (and in general treated themselves as inferior and not fully human) to be, well, not very respectable. I could pity them, or coddle them, but could I respect them? Should I even try to? And perhaps it is that that you see and dislike.
