Okay, a little more. I am going here, in February, to visit my bff royinpink, who is teaching English there. And I know next-to-no Chinese, so that should be good.
WOW! That's exciting and cool, and I look forward to hearing about it. Is royinpink over there now? How look will you be there for?
cucumberseed taught English in China for a while, and I think he speaks it some. I learned a little classical Chinese when I was in grad school, but that was just to read, not to speak (and now I remember, let's see.... none? Pretty much none.)
She's over there for at least this academic year, and who knows about the next. I'll be there for two weeks.
I took Chinese for one semester in college, and stopped because writing characters was killing my hand and I could not get the accents right. I remember, like, "hen hao," and that's about it.
(I lived in Dongguan [the Gary Indiana of China] and Huizhou [the Hartford Connecticut of China], down in Guangdong, and spent a day and a half in Shanghai [which was awesomesauce])
