Yeah, I guess it's only lucky (a) if you have at least a middle-class life, and (b) it probably just seems normal and average when you grow up there. Things are cool as contrasts to other things; otherwise they're just your life, and you like some things about it and not other things, but you don't usually spend the day thinking, "how cool." Though one day when I was in grad school, I was walking along, noticing people's handmade posters stuck on telephone poles and street lamp posts--you know, the ones that advertise apartments and you tear off a number (or they advertise guitar lessons or whatever). And, I found myself thinking, "Wow, in the late twentieth century, people put personal advertisements up on columns and pillars and other objects in public spaces... and I'm actually here SEEING IT!" For a minute I was able to feel like a time traveler from the future.
