o, childhood
Jul. 16th, 2007 11:00 pmI found the book (online) I was semi-obsessed with as a kid (checked it out dozens of times from the school library in 3rd-5th grade). I only knew that the title was Fairytales, and it contained the stories The Ship of Bones, The Island of Purple Fruit, the Fly-By-Night, among others. And now I know who wrote it - Terry Jones (of Monty Python). Now if only I could buy it. It really is a fantastic book. The stories are scary, sad, funny, profound... deliciously complex for a children's book (and not at all appropriate for ages 4-8!). Yeah. That book and People, by Peter Spier, were probably the best books of my childhood (followed by the Roald Dahl books). Vital for any child.
